Craig Gordon reveals Allan McGregor hope as keeper considers his Rangers future

CRAIG GORDON admits it would be ‘nice’ to have Allan McGregor and David Marshall as Premiership rivals for one last season as he gears up for another campaign with Hearts.

Marshall has returned north of the border after clinching a deal with Hibernian and will be part of the side that new boss Lee Johnson leads at Easter Road this term.

Gordon has European ambitions in his sights as Robbie Neilson’s side aim to build on their third-placed Premiership finish and run to the Scottish Cup final last time out.

But McGregor has yet to put pen-to-paper and commit his future to Rangers for another season as Giovanni van Bronckhorst builds his squad for a crack at the top flight title.

Gordon, Marshall and McGregor have been terrific servants for club and country throughout their careers and time will tell if the elder statesman of the trio feels that he has another shot at glory left in him at Ibrox.

Gordon said: “That is up to him, I don’t want to put any pressure on him at all. If he feels up to it.

“I have always enjoyed playing against him, I have enjoyed watching him and if he plays on then the three of us could be in the Premiership for the first time in a long time.

“To finish off all our careers playing in the same division, that would be nice. Let’s see what happens.

“He was a year older than me, so we didn’t really cross paths in ages groups. I got called up to be on the bench of the older age group for him for Edinburgh schools once or twice but that was the only time we were in the same team.”
