Craig David delighted commuters at a busy London train station with an impromptu performance of five of his hit songs.
The 43-year-old DJ and singer-songwriter pitched up at St Pancras International on Wednesday morning for a surprise acoustic set, accompanied by pianist Kwame Yeboah on the station’s piano.
He quickly drew a crowd as he kicked off the performance with his classic hit 7 days, before smoothly transitioning to into Rise & Fall, bringing both nostalgia and energy to the station.
Keeping the vibe light and interactive, David told the audience: "We're just quick-firing through them, I'm just passing through," before asking Yeboah, "What else can you do?"
The pair continued with a soulful rendition of Can You Feel Me and wrapped up with an emotional performance of Unbelievable.
Over the years, David has amassed 25 UK top 40 singles and two UK Number one albums, plus, he has also received multiple BRIT Award and Grammy nominations, 6 MOBO Awards, as well as becoming a 3x Ivor Novello Award winner.
He recently returned with his first new music in over two years with the single In Your Hands. He also appears on the remix of Jorja Smiths track Lately, which dropped last week.
In addition to preparing to release his ninth studio album, which he says he is “gassed” about, the Southampton-born star will be hitting the road for his Commitment UK arena tour in 2025 with special guest Lemar.
The 11-date tour will kick off at Leeds’ First Direct Arena on February 2 and conclude at London’s O2 Arena on February 20.
Speaking to The Standard earlier this month, David - who is the first to acknowledge that he has a reputation for taking himself a bit seriously - said lately he has been reconnecting with his inner child.
He said: “I feel like even more than ever before, I’m having the fun that I had as a 12-13-year-old kid in Southampton and really just enjoying life. “The older you get, the more open you are to adventures like you were as a child. You start to remember you know what? Let’s not sweat the small stuff anymore. It’s like you get enough life under your belt, lets just enjoy this life; it’s precious. As long as you’ve got your health, your friends, your family, just enjoy life.”
He also noted: “I think I’m in a really receiving/listening phase in my life, do you know what I mean?”
