Spellfarers is an upcoming cozy MMO developed by studio Digital Leisure and will be coming out in early access on July 29, 2024.
The developer also revealed that the upcoming title is a casual MMORPG that gives off a bit of a Disney Dreamlight Valley feel. The game itself features various mechanics, such as crafting, fishing, building, and more that fans familiar with the genre will surely enjoy.
Spellfarers Early Access Coming in July
The Frequently Asked Questions portion revealed that the game's full launch is expected to happen sometime during the first quarter of 2025. However, there is little information on the exact details of Spellfarer's official release window.
Also, the FAQ noted that during the game's early access period, players will be able to grow and gather ingredients, cast spells, and build. But it also cautioned that there could be some bugs that will be experienced along the way.
The developers encouraged players to provide feedback about Spellfarers during the early access period. This is because the team wants to handle balancing issues and bugs as quickly as possible with "regular patches," according to MMORPG.
The trailer for Spellfarers that is currently on Steam showcases that the game's early access will be free-to-play on July 29, 2024. However, this could still change in the future as the release date category still only shows "coming soon."
Digital Leisure is a Canadian studio that describes Spellfarers as being under both MMO and online co-op categories. The game is, simply put, a cozy sandbox where players are witches who craft, fish, farm, and investigate mysteries.
Spellfarers also features social activities where you can interact with others as well as player housing that seems to mix Harry Potter with Palia and Stardew Valley. The village that players are thrown into is known as Wenngrove.
The developer noted that players will also get their own Witch Hut that they can decorate as much as they like as well as a Familiar that will keep you company.
Digital Leisure said that as it continues to work on the game, there will surely be some balancing issues, said MassivelyOP.
The Cozy MMO Life
Another thing that is worth noting is that developer Digital Leisure is seen with five other games that are currently on Valve's gaming platform. One of which looks to be a casino-themed social MMO that has a surprising number of reviews but falls in the "mixed" rating.
While waiting for Spellfarers' early access and full release, fans of the cozy MMO genre can dive into another game on Steam, Palia. This is a life sim that is also in early access and lets you garden, hunt, and hang out with your friends.
Developer Singularity 6 is supporting the game with constant updates to keep it fresh and lively as well as making the idea much clearer. One thing that is worth noting about Palia is the community, where players have gathered to help each other out.
In one instance, some people were calling out resource drops and letting other players pick up special ore or wood.
Another example is chefs planning cooking parties and inviting people who do not have well-equipped kitchens or stocked supplies to enjoy together, according to Polygon.
