Cowboys Receiver Antonio Callaway Released After Arrest

The Cowboys released receiver Antonio Callaway on Monday in the wake of his arrest in Miami over the weekend, the team announced. Dallas signed former Chargers receiver Tyron Johnson to replace Callaway in a corresponding move.

Callaway was arrested Saturday due to an outstanding warrant for driving with a suspended license, according to a report from Andy Slater of Fox Sports 640. The 26-year-old was reportedly taken into custody after identifying himself to law enforcement when the vehicle was pulled over for speeding.

Monday’s news marks the end of the latest chapter of Callaway’s turbulent NFL career, which began in 2018 after he was selected in the fourth round by the Browns.

After spending two seasons in Cleveland, Callaway spent time on the Dolphins and Chiefs practice squads before joining the Cowboys in November 2022. The veteran wideout hasn’t caught a pass over the last two seasons, didn’t appear in a game for Dallas in ’22 and eventually signed a futures contract in January.

Outside of his recent arrest, Callaway has encountered multiple issues off the field during his time in the league. In 2018, Callaway was issued a citation for marijuana possession and driving with a suspended license. He was later suspended for the first four of the ’19 season for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy. He was then suspended by the league again in November 2019 for 10 games over another substance abuse violation.
