A man who tortured hamsters he had brought from a Wirral pet store was also jailed this month.

Here are some of serious cases related to Wirral came before the courts in August.

Leo Meeks

Leo Meek 'took out' 15 year old Jack Jones while driving a Volkswagen Tiguan on Manor Drive in Upton at around 9.40pm on April 26 this year.

The 15-year-old from Moreton had been cycling the familiar route to his aunt's house after spending the evening watching a film with his little brother.

Meek, 22, left Jack with fatal head and neck injuries while speeding at between 53 and 55mph on a 30mph residential road.

He then fled the scene, and didn't even apply his brakes, ditching his friend's dad's car and getting a taxi home, where he went to bed.

Judge Menary said his failure to stop was "cowardly and callous" adding "you were then only concerned about yourself" as he was jailed for three years and four months, which was reduced from five years to reflect his guilty plea.

He was also disqualified from driving for three years from the date of his release.

Bradley Luxton

EncroChat cocaine boss Bradley Luxton joked in texts about the hack that would later see him locked up.

Bradley Luxton laughed with a fellow drug dealer that they would need 'loads of Skys' - an alternative platform to EncroChat.

The 34-year-old kept his two EncroChat phones until March the following year, when police raided his house and exposed his multi-kilo cocaine business.

Luxton dealt in various class A drugs and said he 'remained in the game' after £380,000 worth of drugs was stolen and he had to repay the debt to 'TopsKing'.
