A man in China was rescued moments before he was due to be driven away to be cremated after undertakers saw his body bag moving.
Shocking footage surfaced on Chinese social media of officials wearing Personal Protective Equipment removing the yellow body bag from a hearse and unzipping it to find the pensioner very much alive.
The video shows workers demanding that staff from a nursing home in Shanghai come to inspect the "body".
One individual can be heard shouting: "You come here and see if he's dead? He is still breathing! Didn't you see he's moving?"
The body bag is unzipped and a cover is pulled off the head of the nursing home patient inside, who is revealed to not be dead.
"He is alive, don't cover his face ever again," a man says angrily, as staff wheel the pensioner back into the nursing home on a stretcher.
Government officials from Shanghai's Putuo district confirmed that employees from the nursing home had placed the man in the body bag and arranged for him to be cremated.
The pensioner is in a stable condition after being transferred to a hospital for a comprehensive check-up.
The nursing home has apologised for the poor handling of its patient and a spokesperson said it is working with the Putuo government to establish a special unit to investigate how the incident, which took place on Sunday, was allowed to happen.
Shanghai is under a strict month-long lockdown as part of government measures to clear China's financial capital of Covid as thousands of cases are being reported daily.
Workers have been told by officials to quarantine at their offices and robot dogs have been deployed on the city's streets to remind people to remain inside their homes.
A drone with red and white flashing lights has also been seen circling above the city.
