Covid travel rules: Entry requirements for Tenerife after Spain updates law for teen travellers

Travel rules are updating regularly as countries move forward from the Covid pandemic.

Recently, Spain updated their entry rules for those aged between 12-17.

This comes after their strict requirement of only allowing vaccinated arrivals in from aged 12 and over, left many Brits looking elsewhere for holidays.

The FCDO says: "If you’re fully vaccinated and travelling from the UK, you can enter Spain without needing to test or quarantine regardless of your reason for travel. Your vaccination status must meet the Spanish authorities’ validity period requirements.

"At least 14 days must have passed since being fully vaccinated (with both doses of a two-dose vaccine or one dose of a single-dose vaccine) before arrival in Spain."

They warn you must meet the requirements of being fully vaccinated.

"Your date of vaccination must be specified and your final dose must have been administered within 270 days prior to travel to Spain.

"If you completed your vaccination (with both doses of a two-dose vaccine or one dose of a single-dose vaccine) more than 270 days prior to travel to Spain, you must be able to show proof of having received a booster jab."

For those seeking some winter sun, Tenerife and the Canary Islands is a popular choice.

Entry requirements for Tenerife

Tenerife is currently in Covid Alert Level 4.

  • For those aged 18 and over, a Covid test or proof of recovery is not accepted-everyone 18 and over must show proof of being fully vaccinated.
  • Those aged 12-17 can use a negative PCR test if they can't provide a vaccine certificate.
  • All travellers aged 12 and over must show proof of vaccination and fill out the Health Check Form before arrival.
  • On arrival you may be asked to do a undergo a visual health check.

Covid rules for Tenerife

  • It is best to check with your accommodation who may ask to see your Covid status, either a negative Covid test taken within 72 hours or your vaccination status.
  • Vaccination certificate are required to attend restaurants, hotels and other hospitality venues.
  • While the islands and Spain accept the Covid Pass, it is best to either have the PDF as a screenshot on your phone and have a printed copy (dated after November 1) in case of technical issues.
  • When arriving you must download the RadarCovid app which pings you if you come into contact with someone with Covid.
  • Indoor hospitality venues only allow eight people per table while nightlight, cultural venues and beaches are running at 75 percent capacity which means you may need to book appointments to visit.
  • Masks must be worn in enclosed public spaces, unless eating or drinking.
