Covid testing: What tests can I get at Leeds Bradford Airport?

The UK may have scrapped testing for those coming here from abroad, but many global destinations still require a pre-departure test. So what's available at Leeds Bradford Airport?

How do I find out if whether I need a test?

The best way to find out is to go to the Gov.uk travel advice pages. You simply type in the name of the country you are going to and it will list what you need to do before you set off. It will tell you whether you need to show proof of vaccination, for example, and if a test is required.

What kind of test do I need?

This will depend on the destination. Some countries will require a PCR test, which can take a day or two to organise, others just need a rapid lateral flow test (LFT) – the Gov.uk pages will tell you which.

If I need a test, can I get one at my local airport?

Yes, Leeds Bradford Airport offers what it calls Fit to Fly tests for Covid. But you'll need to book a test online with its partner, NPH Group.

The NPH Group website, when we checked on 10 June, was offering LFT tests on a click and collect, postal and face-to-face basis. However, the only PCR tests it was offering were face-to-face in Newcastle.

Of course, you don't have to use the airport's testing partner - there are many other companies who offer PCR testing in the Yorkshire area.

How does it work?

Any test you do will produce a result - negative or positive. You will need a certificate with a negative result to prove you are fit to fly.

You book a test online - but do so in good time. And keep checking whether the travel advice has changed on the Gov.uk website, as it can be updated at short notice.

You'll need to make the booking so that it works with the testing timescale for the country you are going to. Some countries want a negative result within 72 hours of you arriving there, others say 48 hours. Check on the Gov.uk site.

How much does it cost?

Leeds Bradford prices for LFT Covid tests start at £17. PCR tests are £99 and upwards.

How long does it take to get my result?

For LFT tests, you should get the result within an hour, but for PCR tests it will arrive within 48 hours, so bear this in mind when booking. And allow plenty of time for parking and getting through security on the day you fly, of course, as there can be delays.

What happens when I've got my negative result?

You simply need to remember to pack all those other holiday essentials. Then go off and enjoy your well-earned break!
