Covid latest for Bristol: Six new deaths recorded in worrying rise for region

The Bristol region has recorded five new Covid-related deaths in what is more alarming data.

The latest government figures show the Bristol region, which accounts for the city of Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire, recorded five more Covid deaths than last Saturday, when only one person died with the virus.

It comes as more than 1,300 new cases were recorded across the three local authority areas in the latest 24-hour period.

Covid case numbers have been fluctuating in the Bristol region in recent months.

Today's death rate is one of the highest we've seen on a weekend this year, meanwhile today's case numbers are just under what they were this time last week.

1,304 new cases in the Bristol region brings our total number of cases since the pandemic began to 257,497.

Six new deaths brings the total number of fatalities to 1,494.

Nationally, there were 60,578 new cases recorded today, and 259 new deaths.

It comes as one area of Bristol has a rolling rate that is more than double the national average.

The number of positive test results in each area of the Bristol region since the pandemic began is recorded below, with new positive test results recorded today in brackets:

  • City of Bristol: 132,615 (+621)
  • North Somerset: 50,303 (+306)
  • South Gloucestershire: 74,579 (+377)

The number of deaths recorded in each area of Bristol since the beginning of the pandemic is as follows, with new deaths within 28 days of a positive test in brackets:

  • City of Bristol: 655 (+2)
  • North Somerset: 408 (+1)
  • South Gloucestershire: 431 (+3)
