There have been 6,329 further positive PCR tests of Covid-19 confirmed in Ireland today by the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET).
An additional 4,810 people registered a positive antigen test through the HSE portal on Sunday.
The Department of Health says there are now 1,006 people in hospital, of which 97 are in ICU.
It comes as a leading immunology expert said that the Omicron wave of infections has likely already peaked.
Professor Paul Moynagh from Maynooth University indicated that the worst of the surge in Omicron cases is probably behind us, although it is "difficult to be completely sure".
"If you look at these waves they tend to be symmetrical, we don't really know why," he told RTE's Morning Ireland.
"So with Omicron, the incline was very, very steep, so we probably expect decline to be something similar and reflect that steep incline."
Prof Moynagh also said it is "probably" time to start thinking about the listing of restrictions.
It comes as NPHET will meet on Thursday to consider the easing of restrictions, with Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan expected to advise whether the current measures on the hospitality sector and working from home can be lifted next month.
It is hoped the 8pm curfew on bars and restaurants will be extended to at least 11pm from next month after NPHET reviews the latest data on the virus.
NPHET will also examine the impact a return to offices and workplaces may have on infection rates.
The current restrictions are in place until January 30, with measures not expected to be eased before then.
