Covid infection rates ABOVE national average in two Greater Manchester boroughs

Coronavirus infection rates are now above the national average in two boroughs of Greater Manchester. Despite this, figures show that cases are still falling in all ten boroughs.

Stockport continues to have the highest coronavirus infection rate in the whole region, with Trafford also now recording a rate higher than the national average. Stockport recorded a rate of 311.0 cases per 100,000 people in the week ending April 15, with Trafford recording a rate of 309.4 per 100,000.

The lowest infection rate is in Oldham, where the rate is 178.0 cases per 100,000 people. In Greater Manchester as a whole, the infection rate is now 232.5 cases per 100,000 population. The infection rate in the region on the whole is lower than the national average, which is 298.3 cases per 100,000 people.

A total of 6,592 people tested positive for coronavirus across Greater Manchester in the week which ended on April 15. The Greater Manchester weekly total has decreased by 2544 cases compared to the previous week, which means the infection rate was down 28 per cent in the last week.

Hospital admissions

In the week ending on April 10, a total of 715 patients were admitted to Greater Manchester NHS hospitals with Covid-19. That is 86 fewer than the week before, a fall of 14 per cent.

On Tuesday April 12, there were 16 Mechanical Ventilation (MV) beds occupied by Covid patients in Greater Manchester NHS hospitals. That is two more than a week earlier.

Deaths

In the week ending April 15, a total of 46 people died within 28 days of a positive Covid test across Greater Manchester, which is 3 fewer than the week before. Since the start of the pandemic, there have been a total of 980,403 confirmed coronavirus cases in Greater Manchester and been a total of 9,083 deaths.

Bury

Bury recorded 468 coronavirus cases, which is 197 fewer than in the previous seven days. The latest infection rate in Bury is 245.4 cases per 100,000 people and that is down 30 per cent week-on-week.

Tameside

Tameside saw a total of 510 cases in the week ending April 15, which is 225 fewer than the previous week. That is a fall of 31 per cent. In Tameside, the most recent coronavirus infection rate is now 224.6 cases per 100,000 people.

Salford

The trend is down in Salford, where there were 620 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending April 15, which is 234 fewer than the previous 7 days. That is down by 27 per cent compared to the previous week. The latest infection rate in Salford is 236.0 cases per 100,000 people, which is lower than the national average.

Bolton

In Bolton, the number of cases is down by 31 per cent compared to the previous week - leaving the infection rate at 196.7 cases per 100,000 population. There were 567 positive Covid-19 tests in Bolton in the week ending April 15, which was 252 fewer than the previous 7 days.

Stockport

In Stockport, there were 915 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending April 15, which is 229 fewer than the previous 7 days. Stockport has the highest infection rate in the region. The infection rate in Stockport is down slightly compared with the previous day and the week-on-week trend is down by 20 per cent.

Wigan

In Wigan, the latest infection rate is 249.2 cases per 100,000 people and the number of cases has gone down by 30 per cent. A total of 824 people tested positive for Covid in Wigan over the seven days ending on April 15, which is 350 fewer than the week before.

Manchester

There was a fall of 23 per cent in cases in Manchester over the week ending April 15, and the infection rate is now 201.5 cases per 100,000 population. Manchester recorded 1120 positive Covid-19 tests over the seven-day period, and that is 335 fewer than the previous week.

Trafford

There were 735 positive tests over the last week in Trafford, which is 250 fewer than in the previous week. The week-on-week trend in Trafford is down by 25 per cent and the latest infection rate is 309.4 cases per 100,000 people.

Rochdale

Rochdale is an area where the trend is down. The latest infection rate here is 183.3 cases per 100,000 people. There were 410 cases recorded in Rochdale, which is 259 fewer than the previous week - a fall of 39 per cent.

Oldham

Oldham, which has the lowest infection rate in the region, recorded 423 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending April 15, which is 213 fewer than the previous 7 days. The coronavirus infection rate in Oldham is now 178.0 cases per 100,000 people and is down by 33 per cent week-on-week.
