COVID-19 hospitalisations in NT rise to 170 as case numbers hit new peak

The number of COVID-19 patients in Northern Territory hospitals has risen to 170, up from 164 on Friday.

There are two patients in intensive care units and 21 patients are requiring oxygen. Both numbers are lower than Friday's totals of three and 27 respectively.

The Northern Territory government announced 1,425 new coronavirus cases on Saturday, a new daily record, including 42 added to Friday's tally.

Of the new cases, 1,223 were detected by rapid antigen tests.

There were 799 cases recorded in the Top End region, 193 in Central Australia, 108 in the East Arnhem region, 80 in the Big Rivers region, and 38 in the Barkly region. 165 are under investigation.

The number of active cases in the NT is about 7,733.
