The Covid-19 booster is now available to all people with underlying health conditions regardless of age.
The HSE confirmed that people aged 12-49 with underlying conditions can now book their booster dose of the vaccine at participating pharmacies, GP clinics and vaccine centres. People with diabetes, cancer, asthma and other immunocompromised conditions fall into this category. Healthcare workers are also eligible for the dose.
The second booster was previously offered on an age related basis, with people aged 50-60 being the last previous cohort invited to book their jab. Colm Henry, the HSE’s chief clinical officer, encouraged people to sign up for their second booster, saying that the vaccine remained the best protection against Covid-19 related illness.

“We know that those who have long-term health conditions are at greater risk from serious illness from Covid-19. Getting a second booster vaccine now will help protect these people, particularly as we come into the autumn,” Colm said in a statement.
Immunocompromised children aged 5-11 will also soon be entitled to receive their first booster dose of the vaccine, according to Children’s Health Ireland. Meanwhile, people who have yet to receive a primary dose of the vaccine are encouraged to come forward for protection against the Covid-19 virus.
"If you haven’t had your primary vaccination, it’s not too late, you can still access the information through the HSE website and book an appointment,” Colm previously stated.
Further information on eligibility for the vaccine as well as booking an appointment is available on the HSE’s website.
