Two people have been found dead after a house fire in Coventry early on Friday.

Firefighters were called to the address on The Coppice in Stoke Aldermoor area of the city at around 4.50am.

Two people were found dead at the scene following the blaze, said a West Midlands Police spokesperson.

The spokesperson said: "Sadly, two people were confirmed dead at the scene and we are now working to identify them.

"Our officers are liaising closely with West Midlands Fire Service, who are working to identify the cause of the fire."

The West Midlands Ambulance Service said it worked with other emergency services to "identify two patients" at the house.

However, a spokesperson added: "Sadly, it quickly became apparent nothing could be done to save either of the patients and they were confirmed dead at the scene."

Anyone with information can call 101 quoting log 385 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
