Coventry City stance on Viktor Gyokeres amid Everton transfer links

Everton would need to make a huge bid in order to prompt Coventry City into selling them Viktor Gyokeres ahead of tonight’s 11pm deadline.

Everton are in need of attacking reinforcements and as reported by the ECHO for some time now, the hope was that the Blues could land two new attacking options this month. However, no new faces are yet to arrive at the club.

But reports over the weekend claimed that Gyokeres had emerged as a target for the Blues. The forward has scored 13 goals in 29 games so far this season, as well as claiming four assists.

However, the ECHO understands that it would take a huge bid from the Blues to prompt the Championship club into selling the 24-year-old. Coventry are just four points off the play-off places and conducting a deal so late in the window would give them very little time to sign a replacement.

Sky Blues boss Mark Robins has twice insisted that Gyokeres isn’t going anywhere this month, saying there’s 'not a chance' of him being sold and revealing that he has spoken to the player about the situation.

“Viktor is going nowhere. I can tell you now he is going nowhere in January,” he told the Coventry Telegraph. “Absolutely no chance. I’ve spoken to Vik.

“There’s not a chance of them going anywhere in January. It would be absolutely ridiculous and I’m adamant that is happening. The only way people can go is if you have got people lined up, replacements lined up that are better. It’s not going to happen."

While speaking earlier this month, new Coventry owner Doug King shut down any suggestions of the forward leaving.

“I made it clear two months ago that I didn’t want to be a selling club,” he told the Coventry Telegraph.

“To get to where you want to get to if you keep selling your best players you are probably going to fail. You may balance the books again and then you go again.

Before he added: Does it look like we’re walking the walk and not just talking the chat. So that’s the goal but for me, Vik is a pivotal player for our team. He’s a top striker in the Championship and I don’t want him going anywhere.”
