Courteney Cox becomes Monica as she plays game with Friends co-star Lisa Kudrow

Courteney Cox channelled her iconic Friends character Monica Geller when she appeared in NBC's Celebrity Escape Room.

The 55-year-old actress was joined by her Friends co-star Lisa Kudrow as well as Ben Stiller and Adam Scott for the difficult escape challenge.

During the high-energy episode, which airs on May 21, the four actors are tasked with working together to solve puzzles and escape the room before the time runs out.

Each room of puzzles they complete will raise money for charity.

In today's episode, Courteney begins shouting at Lisa for being on the wrong colour square.

Hosted by Jack Black, the comedian quickly made the connection to her famous Friends character Monica, who had also fumed at Phoebe.

"I see a little bit of Monica coming out in Courteney and I like it," Jack joked as he presented the challenging show.

Throughout Friends, which ran for 10 successful series, Monica and Phoebe are best pals but sometimes shared tense moments and passive aggressive comments.

Back to Celebrity Escape Room, it turns out that Lisa wasn't even on the wrong colour, and the celebrities made a bit of a shambles of the task at hand.

"Happily, this is not an IQ test," co-competitor Adam said in a teaser for the show.

"But we should be embarrassed.

In the nail biting scenes, the A-list contestants will only be allowed to ask for three clues from the game master while he commentates on the chaos that unfolds.

According to a press release, show bosses teased that the show "combines the drama and tension of a real-life video game with the side-splitting allure of the ultimate party game."

The competition, that airs on NBC later today, will form part of a two-hour collection of Red Nose Day shows.
