When a drug dealer was told her client had just stabbed a man he thought was now dead, she didn't know what to say, a NSW court has been told.
So she asked him how much pot he was after.
Scott David Weaver, 40, has pleaded not guilty to murdering 67-year-old Larry White, whose body was found at a North Gosford unit in December 2019.
He has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the Supreme Court in Newcastle where his trial has been told the stabbing was allegedly done in self-defence.
On Wednesday a December 2019 police statement by Lara Cupples was read to jurors who were told she had since passed away.
Weaver had been messaging Ms Cupples about picking up cannabis with his girlfriend Yolanda Howlett when he asked if a person called Hayley could give them a lift.
"I know a person Hayley and I didn't want anything to do with her. I sent a reply 'if it's Hayley f*** no get a cab'," the statement read.
"They replied 'please can she give us a lift?'
"I replied 'f*** no get a cab.'
"They replied 'OK we'll get a cab'."
Weaver, who she described as a lot younger looking than his 37 years at the time and was sporting spiky orange hair, eventually arrived in the taxi where he left Howlett waiting.
The pair hopped into Ms Cupples' car where she offered him a small amount of drugs.
Weaver appeared upset, and punched the dashboard out of frustration, she said.
He asked for more and opened up his wallet which had a wad of notes inside, about 3cm thick full of $50 and $100 bills, she said.
"I said put your money away and stop flashing it around."
Weaver then asked for something bigger, saying that it would really help.
"He seemed very agitated and said 'I've had a really s****y day, if only you knew the day I had.'
"I've just f***ing stabbed somebody and I think I may have killed them."
She said the words sounded scared and desperate, not boastful or proud.
"After he said this I didn't know what to say. I said 'how much more do you want?'
"He said 'whatever you've got'."
Ms Cupples returned with $200 worth of pot she placed inside Howlett's handbag inside the stationary car.
The next afternoon her partner received a phone call from a friend asking if she knew what happened last night.
The friend said: "He's dead, he's been stabbed to death. Larry's dead".
Soon after Ms Cupples made her police statement.
The murder trial was earlier told that Weaver accepted that he killed Mr White, but believed it was necessary to defend himself.
Leading up to the killing Weaver allegedly harboured sexual jealousy about the Mr White's relationship with Howlett, and had become confrontational and angry.
His defence counsel argues Howlett has since "turned against" Weaver in a bid to shift blame and protect herself.
