The self-described "Big Bird Bandits" charged over the theft of an expensive Sesame Street costume will likely plead guilty, an Adelaide court has heard.

Tasman Binder, Cody Milne and Amelia Hurt appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court today over the alleged theft of the $160,000 Big Bird costume in April 2021.

The trio is accused of taking the 213cm-tall costume that was flown in from New York for the Sesame Street Circus Spectacular, which was held at Bonython Park.

During the hearing, the prosecutor indicated guilty pleas would be entered, but said she was waiting on confirmation from Ms Hurt's lawyer.

It is expected the accused will enter their pleas during the next court appearance.

The Big Bird costume was returned a few days after being taken, along with an apology letter signed by "The Big Bird Bandits".

The note, found in the beak of the costume, included an apology for being "such a big 'birden'".

It said: "We had no idea what we were doing, or what our actions would cause.

"We were just having a rough time and were trying to cheer ourselves up.

"We had a great time with Mr Bird, he's a great guy, and no harm came to our friend."

Mr Milne, Mr Binder and Ms Hurt have been charged with aggravated dishonestly dealing with property without consent.

They will appear back before a magistrate on February 17.
