A court in Argentina has made a significant ruling in the case involving the tragic death of Liam Payne, the former One Direction singer who fell from a third-floor hotel balcony in Buenos Aires last October. The court dropped charges of criminal negligence against three of the five people indicted in connection with Payne's death.
The three individuals who had the charges dropped are Rogelio Nores, an Argentine businessman with U.S. citizenship who was accompanying Payne during his trip; Gilda Martin, the manager of the CasaSur Hotel where the incident occurred; and Esteban Grassi, the hotel's main receptionist.
On the other hand, the court ordered the remaining two defendants, Ezequiel David Pereyra and Braian Paiz, to remain in custody. They are facing prosecution for allegedly supplying narcotics to Payne in the days leading up to his death.
The court's decision was based on various factors, including a toxicology report that revealed the presence of alcohol, cocaine, and a prescription antidepressant in Payne's system at the time of his fall. Prosecutors argued that negligence played a role in the tragedy, with allegations that Payne should have been kept away from the balcony due to his intoxicated state.
However, the defense attorneys successfully argued that the defendants who had the charges dropped did not exhibit negligent conduct that directly contributed to Payne's death. The court ruled that there was insufficient evidence to prove their culpability in the incident.
As the legal proceedings continue, Pereyra and Paiz remain in detention as they face more serious charges related to supplying narcotics, which could result in a lengthy prison sentence if convicted.
Liam Payne's untimely death deeply impacted fans around the world, with many expressing their grief over the loss of the beloved singer. The court's decision marks a significant development in the case, shedding light on the complexities surrounding the circumstances of Payne's tragic passing.
