Couple to open new coffee shop on Mansfield Road in Nottingham

A couple who moved to Nottingham a year ago are venturing into opening their first coffee shop together on Mansfield Road in Nottingham city centre. It is hoped Punch coffee will be ready to open by mid September.

Ben and Kellie Bradley, who live in Long Eaton, are working on getting the coffee shop ready to open. The shop, which had been a barbers shop, has been transformed by new signage and also, a new dark blue paint job. The inside is still being worked on but paint being stripped from the front of the shop has revealed beautiful traditional green tiles.

The couple hope the coffee shop will be 'community-focused' and are determined that this will become a space where they know the locals by name and coffee order.

Ben said: "We wanted to do a coffee shop for ages and we had friends who were already in catering. Our plan is to serve the local community with a great quality coffee shop and give people a place to go where they feel remembered or recognised."

The couple, who run Honed Projects and Honed Interior Design, have joined forces with Amy and Adam Jones from ABJ Catering to combine their expertise in design, building and food and drink. They want to keep things simple but keep it local by serving coffee from the Nottingham brand Outpost.

Kellie said: "There isn't really much around here in terms of what is on offer so we wanted to provide something for local residents, students, those who travel up and down the road. The locals here have been really excited about it as we had one guy who said that he works locally and has been waiting for something like this to open because there isn't anything."

She added: "It's been really great to chat to people nearby so I've been building relationships with our neighbours who all seem excited that we are coming here. We want to really build a community here."

"Most of us do like a coffee every now and again and go to a regular place. It's nice to be able to go out again after Covid to talk face to face. It's really important as we need that interaction and you can't get everything from a screen so it's nice," she said.

Local resident said they were excited about the prospect of a new coffee spot given that that part of Mansfield road currently has none. The cafe has a number of pubs, abandoned shops and also artist studios in that spot but nothing dedicated to coffee.

Alex Fraser who lives nearby was excited to hear the shop will be open soon. “I’m dead chuffed I can get nice coffee in walking distance from my flat,” he said.
