Ashley Smith and Gary Knebel, a couple who have been together for 15 years, had planned to get married in 2017 but had to postpone their plans due to the passing of Smith's mother. Now, they are set to exchange vows against the backdrop of the upcoming eclipse.
Smith expressed that the loss of her mother had put their wedding plans on hold, but she now feels a sense of guidance from her mother through the eclipse. She believes it is a sign that it is time to move forward and take this significant step in their relationship.
Smith and Knebel are among the 358 couples who will be participating in the “Elope at the Eclipse” event in Russellville, Arkansas. The event will feature a mass wedding ceremony just before totality darkens the skies overhead.
While Smith is eagerly anticipating the moment when they say “I do,” Knebel is looking forward to the unique experience of darkness during the eclipse. He hopes that the darkness will bring a sense of spiritual unity and love to all those present.
According to Knebel, the world is in need of more love, and he believes that the eclipse will provide an opportunity for everyone to feel a powerful sense of togetherness and affection.
