Couple say Turkey teeth have 'ruined their lives' after procedure left them in 'constant pain'

A couple who spent £4,000 getting 'Turkey teeth' have said that the procedure has "ruined their lives" four months on.

Jade Tushingham, 32, and her partner Kelly Tushingham, 30, admitted that they have been left in "constant pain" since getting their 'Turkey teeth' in September. The increasingly popular dental procedure involves having your teeth filed down into stubs in order to have crowns or veneers fitted over the top.

Jade and Kelly, from Chester, visited a private clinic in Antalya and were given local anaesthetic as dentists filed down their teeth, which caused them both "instant" pain. The pair then waited in the clinic's reception for around five hours before being fitted with temporary veneers, the Manchester Evening News reports.

Jade and Kelly had to wear their temporary veneers for five days while awaiting a permanent set, but claimed that they had been fitted badly and looked like "horse teeth". They found it almost impossible to eat or drink anything because of the agony caused by their filed-down teeth, and had to live on mashed potatoes, soup and water throughout the painful period.

When the couple were finally called back to have their crowns fitted, they said that the procedure was "like a blood bath". Both experiencing pain on a daily basis months later, Jade and Kelly are now considering returning to Turkey to demand that the clinic fix their botched teeth.

"Looking back now, we 100% would not have had it done," Jade admitted. ''It's cost us so much money and it's been hell.

"We used some savings we already had to pay for it doing. They look lovely, and in pictures are perfect, but it's like a nightmare," she added. The pair paid a total of £4,240 for the procedures.

Jade said that they have both been left unable to sleep through the night and have to avoid hot or cold foods because of the pain in their teeth, as well as having to constantly take painkillers to ease their discomfort. Now the couple are back in the UK, they are struggling to find a dentist who can help.

"No dentists in the UK would even touch them," Jade said. "We're almost four months into this now. One of our friends is six months post-surgery and she is also still in pain, so I think we'll give it until six months and probably look to fly back out there."

She added: "Our teeth visually do look lovely, and we have people asking us all the time where we had them done because they want theirs doing. We always say no, absolutely do not have them done. We would never recommend them to anyone."

The British Dental Association has previously warned of the risks of travelling abroad for dental treatment. The NHS has advised Brits to look out for 'warning signs' when seeking treatment in another country that the medical care might not be adequate and to think carefully before booking.
