Couple's heartbreaking reason for taking luxury train journey through Snowdonia

Luxury train The Statesman offers stunning journeys across north Wales, showcasing incredible views of Snowdonia. In a More4 TV show, called Britain’s Most Luxurious Train Journeys, one couple enjoyed a trip on The Stateman for a very special and moving reason.

Between them Chris and Cheryl, who have been together for 30 years, have seven children however one of their daughters, Megan, tragically passed away aged just 28 two years ago and this trip on The Statesman was the first trip Chris and Cheryl had embarked on since her death without any of the other six children in tow.

The couple explained that every day they celebrate Megan and this train journey was also celebrating Megan and her life. Cheryl said: "Ever since (her death) every day has been a celebration, with the others, to say we are all here and everything will be alright."

Speaking on the show, Cheryl who became emotional, said: "It is the first time that we've been on our own since Megan passed away and it's been quite emotional." Chris explained that telling their other six children that Megan had died after she fell asleep and didn't wake up, was the most difficult conversation.

He said: "I've never known such a difficult conversation, they were devastated." Cheryl added: "It was hard for us but having to tell the other children that their sister had passed away, that was even harder." Chris and Cheryl enjoyed their trip on the luxurious Statesman where instead of looking after everyone else, they were the ones being looked after.

Cheryl even commented on how nice it was to be made cups of tea, instead of making them herself. Chris said: "It's been really nice to be treated for a change, it is lovely to have staff serving the drinks and just taking care of us."

The Statesman followed a coastal route, showing Chris and Cheryl Wales' amazing coastline and beaches. The couple left the train to visit Swallow Falls in Snowdonia, where Chris gifted Cheryl a lock with their names engraved on it and they then attached it to the handrail of the steps leading to the falls as a permanent reminder of their love.

Also while aboard the Statesman, they enjoyed a three-course meal with a fishcake starter, shoulder and roast rump of Welsh lamb served with seasonal veg and white chocolate and black current dessert. You can keep up to date with the latest TV and showbiz news by signing up to the newsletter here.
