Couple 'paying for house they can't live in' as they claim nightmare neighbour terrorises street

A young couple have been forced to leave their home because they claim a nightmare neighbour is terrorising their street.

Guy Nicholas and his girlfriend Becky claim they have been forced to move back and live in his parents' "sweltering" attic after being subjected to months of anti-social behaviour by their neighbour. The young couple, who have lived in their house for around a year, said the neighbourhood has been terrorised by the man since he moved in around four months ago.

Guy, 22, told the ECHO everyone in the neighbourhood, a Wirral area the ECHO has chosen not to name, "will have a story" about how they have been affected by the constant anti-social behaviour. Guy added it has got so bad Becky no longer feels comfortable in their home.

Guy said the neighbour has engaged in repeated strange behaviour such as singing loudly at all hours of the day and night, shouting at and following people in the street, and posting food and irrational scrawled letters through letterboxes.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police told the ECHO: "We can confirm police have received reports of anti-social behaviour at an address. It has been reported a man has harassed and made threats towards his neighbours. Enquiries into these reports are currently ongoing."

Guy said the couple, who both do shift work, only have three hours sleep a night as the neighbour shouts Becky's name through the wall or stands outside their window. The 22-year-old added the man posts coffee, tea and other food items "to build some kind of bond with my girlfriend".

Becky, 21, told the ECHO : "It's frightening - I can't go back to the house at the moment even if I'm with Guy. When we were there I wouldn't leave the house on my own. I didn't even like staying in the house on my own because I was so scared.

"It's really affecting our lives - Guy couldn't go out with his friends and leave me and I struggled to see mine. Now we're at Guy's parents because we can't stay there. We're paying for a house we can't live in.

"I'm struggling even now - every time I hear a car door or loud noise I wake up because I forget where I am. No one is listening to us."

The couple claimed to have been in contact with Wirral Council regarding the repeated anti-social behaviour. The ECHO contacted Wirral Council who declined to comment.

Guy said: "There's lots of incidents going on. He'll not do anything for a couple of days and then it will just go on for days. We've gone to stay with my parents because we just couldn't take it anymore.

"The two of us are living in a sweltering attic with our pet. We can't go back while he's still there because we will have to go through it again and again.

"It feels like people do not care how much we complain - they don't seem to care."

Wirral Council said people can report anti-social behaviour by calling 0151 606 2020, or email neighbour.nuisance@wirral.gov.uk or by the website: https://www.wirral.gov.uk/communities-and-neighbourhoods/anti-social-behaviour/report-anti-social-behaviour.
