Couple make gruesome discovery as KFC bargain bucket full of 'bloody chicken'

A couple made a gruesome discovery as their KFC bargain bucket was full of "bloody chicken".

Linda Goodale, 74, and her husband Nick treated themselves to a takeaway last Friday with their family.

But as they tucked into their meal with their daughter and granddaughter they were left with a nasty surprise.

Linda, from Wisbech, claimed the chicken was "raw" and "swimming in a liquid or oil" when they returned home after ordering it from a drive-thru.

She told Cambridgeshire Live : "We had to wait 28 minutes or so but that wasn't a bother because they were extremely busy and we sat (in the car) and waited until they brought it over, never thought there was going to be a problem.

“But when we got home we lifted up the tub of chicken the bottom fell out.

“It was just so wet, the whole tub disintegrated into the carrier bag they give you. So that wasn’t a good start."

Having discovered the unappetizing “wet” chicken, the couple were already not too keen on eating it.

But they thought that dabbing it with some kitchen paper should help, adding that the meal was “really hot”.

Linda ate a couple of pieces before glancing at her husband who said: “I think this is blood."

“I then looked down at one of the pieces I was eating and it was the same. We just couldn’t eat it," added Linda.

"I really couldn't have eaten anything after that, it was so bad”.

Linda claims blood was found on around six out of 10 pieces of chicken.

While she admitted that sometimes you can get blood on chicken, her meal wasn’t the “white colour you [normally] get, it was all slimy” instead.

Also included in their bargain bucket were chips which Linda said were cold.

"We had stone cold chips and really hot chicken, the temperature was hot but it was disgusting, you couldn't eat it," she said.

"Nothing was wrong with the chips apart from them being cold, it was just the raw chicken.

“I was so shocked, there was just so much blood."

Linda added that her daughter and granddaughter both had the popcorn chicken which was absolutely fine with no problems.

KFC offered the family a refund (PA)

They tried to call KFC to explain the situation but couldn’t get through so instead drove back to the restaurant in Wisbech.

Upon their arrival, the couple said they asked to speak to a manager. When someone came over, the couple complained that their chicken was undercooked and they "didn't want food poisoning”.

The manager offered them a store credit, but Linda asked for a full refund because they “wouldn't want to go back there”.

The bag was taken away and they received a refund for the 10-piece bargain bucket - but Linda claims they never “received an apology”.

Now Linda says she is “reluctant” to return to any KFC branches, adding: “I wouldn’t want to repeat the process."

In response to this, a KFC spokesperson said: “We’re sorry to hear that Linda was put off her meal, that’s the last thing we want.

"Sometimes our chicken can look undercooked due to using fresh, natural produce however our cooking process makes this very unlikely.

"We’ve not had any similar complaints, but we appreciate this doesn’t look great which is why we offered Linda a refund.”
