Couple made £130,000 dealing cocaine ordered to pay back just £1,300

A couple who made more than £130,000 dealing cocaine have been ordered to pay back just £1,300. Trenae Greenland, 31, and Katie Barrington, 30, spent their earnings on fuelling their own drug habits as well as clothes and shoes.

It was said the two women were both earning £100 a day and double that figure at weekends and even spoke about purchasing VIP holidays. They were caught by police after being stopped while driving in Newport in October 2020, reports Wales Online.

The officer was said to have become 'suspicious' after a Volkswagen Golf was seen stopping near a corner shop. Upon searching the car, police found cash, bags of white powder, and an iPhone which was said to be "ringing constantly".

A search of Greenland's home address found high value clothes and shoes along with cash. Upon examining both of the women's phones, police found conversations between the duo where they discussed the money they were making from dealing drugs.

Speaking at a sentencing hearing last year, prosecutor Nigel Fryer said: "Both these young women were in it for financial gain. They were using cocaine but it is clear their motivation was greed."

They were jailed at Newport Crown Court (Media Wales)

Greeland and Barrington had both previously pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine with intent to supply, being concerned in the supply of cocaine, and possession of criminal property.

They were sentenced to two years and eight months in prison. At Newport Crown Court on Monday, A Proceeds of Crime Act hearing found that Greenland had benefited from £160,960 as a result of dealing cocaine and Barrington had gained £132,821.

The court heard Greenland only had assets worth £1,165 which could be paid back and Barrington had just £150 worth of assets. They were ordered to pay the amounts by Judge Hywel James. Both have three months to pay or serve 21 days and 14 days imprisonment respectively.
