A young couple have been living in a mould-infested tent with no hot water eight months after being told their local council would find them a home.
David Thompson and Jessica Morris, who both suffer from mental health conditions, are unable to work - and have no money to rent a property, YorkshireLive report.
The pair have now been forced to spend the freezing winter months in a dirty tent in Huddersfield, Yorkshire, with no access to warm water.
They spend their days with dogs, Blaze and Marcel, in the cramped tent in the Valley View campsite.
The couple say Kirklees Council have left them living in terrible conditions after going back on their promise.
"We told the council we would be moving up and they told us they would help us find suitable accommodation," said David, 30, who lives with ADHD and depression.
"They have since told us there is nowhere suitable for us because we have got the dogs.
"It makes so many things harder - we don't have a fridge, so we can't keep our food or things like milk for longer than two days.
"We are dealing with rain coming into the tent because it's all ripped and we also have mould. It's not good for us but we can't do anything else really."
David said the couple have no access to showers or warm, running water.
They have to boil their own water whenever they want to wash themselves or clean the dishes.
David, who also has mobility issues, added: "The council don't seem to give us a straight answer; they keep sending us to different people.
"It is so stressful. We are not that good with communication because of our anxiety and depression. It just makes you not want to do anything like that."
The 30-year-old added the couple are hoping to attend a house viewing set up by the council on February 28.
A Kirklees Council spokesperson told Mirror Online: “Tackling rough sleeping is one of the Council’s key priorities.
"We have a rough sleeping team dedicated to working with those in urgent need of help, including offering temporary accommodation where appropriate, but this offer is not always taken-up for various reasons.
“It is not always possible to house dogs in temporary accommodation, but we always work to find temporary foster care for pets whilst their owners await permanent re-housing.
“In this case, both services were offered whilst the couple were being matched to a suitable property.
“A long-term home has now been found and, once the property has undergone repairs, will be ready for them to view.”
