A Scots couple were forced to transport their dream home 600 miles from Wales to a remote Scottish island in a journey that has starred in a new television programme.
Ex-Olympic medallist Ewan MacDonald, 47, and his partner Amy, 41, spent the savings from their family insurance business in Inverness to construct the dream island retreat in the hopes their four sons will grow up surrounded by nature.
The quest to build their dream home was documented in Channel 5's Build Your Dream Home in the Country. In the episode, which aired on Thursday night, the couple battled against time and weather as sections of the house were transported from a factory to the remote and rugged island of North Uist by a lorry.
Due to harsh weather conditions on the island, the £1million designer home had to be constructed in Wales before being carried across the Highlands and over the sea to the Outer Hebrides.
Made in seven sections, the house was then lifted via crane piece by piece and transformed into the 'all-black' stunning modern family home by the sea in the wild and remote island setting.
The pair purchased a plot of land on the island of North Uist for £150,000 three years ago, and have spent the time since then designing and planning.
The house they wished for is completely black, strikingly designed as modern architecture, with huge windows looking out over the sea.
Ewan and Amy decided to have the build done in a factory in Wales, using sustainable materials such as locally sourced timber.
Each of the home's seven sections - which cost around £10,000 each - is measured to fit on a lorry and on the ferry to the Hebrides. Everything from the kitchen and bathrooms down to the tiles had to be moved.
Totalling £1million, construction of the dream home saw delays due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
During the episode, disaster struck several times as the ferry breaks down. They are forced to squeeze the lorries with their valuable loads through the narrowest of gaps to disembark off the ferry.
The episode of Build Your Dream Home will also see Ewan and Amy in a race against time and a deadline to finish the house sections and get them to the island by the end of the summer before the winds are too high.
Build Your Dream Home in the Country follows families across the UK building new homes, featuring a wide range of budgets from as little as £10,000.
Presented by Mark Miller, Build Your Dream Home in the Country is shown on Channel 5 at 8pm on February 9.
