A couple refurbishing their new house were in for the shock of their lives after discovering a secret room containing a bed behind the walls of a basement-level bathroom.
Husband and wife property developers, Steven Sparks, 54, and Carolyn Sparks, 42, stumbled across the dark, cobweb-strewn room while carrying out a contractor survey, and say they didn't even know they had a basement until purchasing, as it hadn't been on the agents' details.
After buying the Victorian property in in Brighton, East Sussex, the couple wanted to draw up a detailed plan in order to refurbish it - but they hadn't banked on making such an eerie find.
According to Carolyn: "We discovered there was a basement to the building after we'd purchased the property. It wasn't on the agents; details, and nor did we see it when we viewed the property.
"It's easily missed as it's accessed via a little WC, so not really a room you'd go into and look at in great detail. I thought it'd be funny to film as all we could see was cobwebs and said it would feel spooky. We didn't expect to find a single iron bed, so it was definitely a little bit freaky!
"That situation alone, never mind finding a child's bed down there just added to the weird situation."
Carolyn, who often films their properties to share on social media, decided to get some spooky footage of their unexpected discovery.
The couple also went on to ask the current tenant about the bed, who explained that her daughter had been shooting a horror film as part of a college assignment, choosing the basement as her set.
Because of her health concerns, and her fear of spiders, the tenant had never been back down to the basement to retrieve the bed.
The room in question had been part of the original Victorian property and was once used as a place to store coal. An access hole can be seen outside the house where the coal would have once been tipped down into the basement.
