Josephine and Alfred from Corby, Northamptonshire, have been together longer than some countries have existed. The pair are so dedicated to each other that they have been together since World War II.
The couple recently celebrated their 100th birthdays with a big party which brought together friends and family. From their late teens/ early 20s, these lovebirds have been together and met when Alf was serving as a marine.
Jo worked as a Land Army Girl in WW2 and caught Alf’s eye, beginning a love story that would last forever. The pair settled down in Corby, reports NorthantsLive, where Alf worked at the steelworks while Jo practised playing the piano and organ.
The couple are not only proud centenarians but have also been married for 75 years. They wed in 1947, the same year as Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, and have been together ever since.
Never ones to miss out on the fun, Jo and Alf often spent weekends away in their caravan or at the local pubs and clubs. They now live together in Elm Bank Care Home in Kettering, just nine miles from Corby.
This 75-year strong marriage resulted in two sons, Allen and Brian, who gave the centenarians four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Brian now lives in Perth, Australia, with his family but came all the way across the world with his wife Jan to celebrate Alf and Jo's wonderful milestone with the rest of the family.
Staff at Elm Bank held the party for the happy couple on Saturday, September 30. It included a special birthday cake made by the home’s chef Sharntelle.
Allen and his wife Caroline said: “Jo and Alf have recently moved into Elm Bank Care Home where they’re enjoying being looked after by the wonderful care team there. May we take this opportunity as a family to send our heartfelt thank you for organising such a wonderful birthday tribute on Saturday afternoon.
“You went above and beyond what we expected. Mum and Dad thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon spent with family and friends.”
Jessica Pateman, General Manager of Barchester Elm Bank Care Home added: “We’re delighted to be celebrating a truly remarkable Husband and Wife as they both reach this amazing milestone. Alf and Jo are wonderful residents who always have an interesting tale to tell, and we look forward to hearing many more as they break into their next century.”
