Couple backed for ditching in-laws after they ruined holiday with surprise guest

Many people enjoy travelling with their pets, but it's always important to check if the place you're staying is dog-friendly.

One couple have taken to Reddit to rant about their in-laws, who arrived at the Airbnb they'd paid for with a dog - despite knowing it was pet-free.

The viral post has received more than 18,000 upvotes and garnered over 1,700 comments, with users backing the couple's decision to leave them stranded.

Posting on the account Rich_Butterscotch850, the woman explained that her sister-in-law secretly arrived at the property in Tampa, Florida, with the pet in tow and tried to sneak it in.

She wrote: "When they saw me pull in she asked if we got the keys yet, which we had. She said 'Oh good, give them to me quick so I can get Brute (dog) inside without being seen.'

"I just stopped dead in my tracks and was like, 'Are you f**king kidding me?"

Before her sister-in-law had a chance to rush the dog inside, she and her husband got back into their car and drove off.

They returned the keys to the Airbnb owner in exchange for a full refund - which they spent on a new hotel nearby and stayed for a week.

Meanwhile, the in-laws were not so lucky and struggled to find somewhere they could afford, as they didn't have money for accommodation or food.

"I just straight up ignored her because in my eyes, she tried ruining my trip that I 100% paid for," the woman explained.

Her mother-in-law has since had a go at her for ditching her sister-in-law on holiday without any expenses.

However, Reddit users have applauded the woman for standing her ground and being honest with the rental property host.

One person said: "She ruined her own plans by refusing to follow explicit rules that she clearly knew she was violating."

Another agreed: "If it doesn't allow dogs, I don't rent it. Period. I would never ever pull the kind of selfish stunt she did."

A third commented: "She wanted you to break the rules and be financially liable for any damage the dog did. She has a lot of nerve. As for giving them money for food, if they were that broke then they should not have made the trip."

Many people commented on the repercussions of taking a dog to a pet-free property.

One wrote: "My son has a deadly allergy to cats - sudden onset - that almost killed him when he was a child. If someone allergic to dogs had rented the property after you, her ignorance could have very well killed them."
