A man and woman were left terrified after being assaulted in an unprovoked attack as they walked home in Renfrew.
The couple had left the XSite leisure complex and were on King’s Inch Road when they were subjected to the violent incident on Friday night.
The pair came across a group of four friends also walking on the road shortly after 10.30pm.
One of the women in the group - who are understood not to have been known by the victims - became aggressive towards the pair.
She tried to start an argument and it quickly escalated to violence.
The couple were then repeatedly assaulted by the female thug who then walked off with her friends, leaving them distressed by what had happened.

Neither the man, 21, or the woman, 28, received any significant injuries in the unprovoked attack, but are understood to have been left shaken.
Police in Renfrew have now launched an investigation into the incident in a bid to trace the attacker.
She is describes as white, aged between 25 and 30, and has blonde hair.
Officers carrying out door-to-door enquiries and checking CCTV in the area as part of their investigation.
Inspector Damian Kane, of Renfrew’s community policing team, said: “This was an unprovoked attack on two members of the public and we are currently carrying out enquiries to establish the circumstances surrounding this incident.
“Officers are currently checking CCTV in the area and carrying out door-to-door enquiries and are keen to hear from members of the public who may have been in the area at this time.
“We would encourage any member of the public who may have seen or heard anything which can assist officers with their enquiries to please get in touch.”
