County Durham voiceover artist Dan Pye wins at national awards

A County Durham voiceover artist has won a national award.

Dan Pye, based in Hunwick, took home a national award at the One Voice Awards, one of two national awards each year for voiceover artists. His win was for being the in-store and telephone voice of retailer Asda, where he has been voicing in store messages and adverts across the country since 2018.

The One Voice Awards celebrate voiceover talent across the industry and attract international entries. The awards ceremony, which took place in London on Saturday night, saw Dan also nominated for the best outtake of the year, though he lost out to another North East talent, Sunderland-based Ian Brannan.

It was a good night overall for the region as Dan's win was a joint award with Jack Oddie, a Cumbrian voiceover artist based in Gateshead. Dan, whose voice you may have heard on Channel 4 in between programmes, or on the Kielder Observatory Podcast said: "It's very exciting - I'm delighted!

"When I first got into voiceover as a full time job back in 2016, Jack picked me up almost and dusted me off and said come into my booth, let’s record some stuff. He was a support arm and to win the award with him was an honour."

However, Dan is probably best known for donating his voice to Lost Voice Guy. And while that may not have contributed to the award, but Dan says that it has made him more known - especially with the comedian out on his Cerebral LOLsy tour.

He continued: "It's been wonderful to be part of his journey and I love getting to hear him use it. I've heard it on podcasts and on the radio, and I can't wait to see him use it at the Tyne Theatre on May 28 for the ultimate show on his tour."
