A local councillor in East Tyrone has branded the condition of some roads following recent roadworks as ‘disgraceful’.
A number of road defects have been reported to Sinn Fein Mid Ulster councillor Niall McAleer in recent weeks following works carried out by contractors for utility companies.
According to the local Torrent councillor, several vehicles have been damaged as a result in the Ardboe and Moortown areas.
“I have been contacted by a number of residents this week about the disgraceful state in which the Annaghmore, Ardboe and Battery Roads have been left in after recent works were carried out on behalf of a number of utility companies,” Cllr McAleer said.
“In the case of the Battery Road, it is very lucky there was not a serious accident given the nature of the defect and the volume of traffic that use it daily.
“Several vehicles were damaged after hitting a number of these defects and people are angry at how roads are being left after works are completed.”
Cllr McAleer added that local residents of two estates were unhappy at how contractors had left public spaces following recent work.
“Residents in both estates have had to contact me concerned at issues relating to how the surface of pavements were left and items such as nails being left strewn around the place.”
MyTyrone contacted the Department for Infrastructure for a response to Cllr McAleer's comments but at the time of publication one has not been received.
