Council to spend £5m on improving North Ayrshire's roads this year

North Ayrshire's roads look set to benefit from a £5 million cash injection.

The council approved plans to improve its roads over the next 12 months at yesterday's cabinet meeting.

Street lighting across the region will also be given £1m for improvements and £700,000 will go towards maintaining bridges.

Meanwhile, Arran's roads will be given an additional £1.6m package for upgrades as well as an £800,000 Scottish Government grant for bridge replacement work on the island.

North Ayrshire Council leader Joe Cullinane said: “The condition of our road network is a priority for residents and that’s why we’ve allocated an additional £1million in the budget.

“This additional investment, above the baseline roads investment programme, has enabled us to agree a comprehensive package of improvements that will cover the length and breadth of North Ayrshire.

“All timings and details of works will be posted on our website.”
