Sefton Council has issued another update on the bin collection delays that have affected the borough.
Those living in the area have been living with ongoing delays over the emptying of bins as the council battles staff shortages and bank holidays. Now in June, staff are still dealing with a backlog of collections.
In their latest update on June 16, the council said workers will be "working hard over the weekend to catch up on outstanding green bin collections". They added: "We understand the frustration surrounding recent delays and would like to assure residents that we are continuing to make progress towards clearing the backlog."

The areas ready for collections include:
- Crosby
- Waterloo
- Bootle
- Litherland
- Seaforth
- Thornton
- Blundellsands
- Little Crosby
- Brighton-le-Sands
The delays have caused anger across Sefton with many residents voicing their frustration over the issue. One mum told the ECHO in May: "It's ridiculous. There's more green waste than ever at this time of year and bins are overflowing." Last month the council also revealed that binmen working in the borough had been abused following the initial delays.
