MORE than 100 Rangers figures including players and directors will be hosted at a “civic reception” by Glasgow City Council to mark the club’s 150th anniversary.
The event, taking place in the City Chambers, comes months after the team marked the anniversary by holding a legends match.
The council’s Lord Provost Jacqueline McLaren (below) said she was “very happy” to welcome both past and present team figures to the event.
”Glasgow is recognised across the world as a great sporting city – and a huge part of that is down to its long love affair with football,” she told the Express Sport.
“Over the last 150 years, Rangers has been one of the sport’s most storied names – and I’m very happy to welcome current players and staff to the City Chambers to mark not only this anniversary but the club’s place in the city’s own history.”
Civic receptions are held for a number of reasons, including marking significant events or achievements.
The cost of such events is typically met by the profits from Glasgow's Common Good fund investments.
After reaching the Europa final in May, Rangers were also invited by Scottish Secretary Alister Jack to a special event at Whitehall’s Dover House.
The team’s managing director Stewart Robertson said the invitation spoke “volumes for the contribution Rangers has made to our nation in a positive sense”.
