Council grants almost £4000 to Lanarkshire community groups

A dozen community groups in and around East Kilbride have benefited from council grants.

Councillors at the East Kilbride area committee meeting on Tuesday approved almost £4000 in funding for 12 local groups.

The funding is part of the councils community schemes, which operate in each area of South Lanarkshire.

Midweek Walking Group, East Kilbride, were given £360 for an outing, administration and publicity costs.

Stonehouse Men’s Shed were granted £300 for equipment and materials.

Allers Allotments Association received £240 for materials.

Stonehouse Senior Citizens’ Pavilion were granted £300 for an outing.

Strathaven Agricultural Exposition got £420 for administration and publicity costs.

East Kilbride Visually Impaired Group were funded £357.40 for an outing and equipment.

Strathaven Choral Society received £400 for an outing, entrance fees, administration and publicity costs.

Lammermoor Allotment Association were granted £300 for start-up costs.

East Kilbride Twins and Triplets Club received £350 for entrance fees.

St Ninian’s Parish Church Guild was granted £300 for entrance fees.

Stonehouse Heritage Group received £264 for equipment.

Strathaven Balloon Festival was granted £360 for equipment.

The council operates a community grants scheme to support local constituted community groups and voluntary organisations. Applications are invited continually throughout the year.

The main aims of the community grants scheme are to fund activities and projects which bring community benefit, involve people in the community by bringing them together to enjoy educational, recreational, leisure and other community activities to improve the local environment.

Support can be provided for a range of activities including administration and publicity costs, purchase of equipment and materials, annual outings and entrance fees, start-up costs and special events.

The total allocation for community grants for East Kilbride this year was £25,750, and there is now £15,833.60 remaining.
