Who Will Be The Next Crystal Palace Manager?
Crystal Palace ended the 2023-24 season as one of the form sides in the Premier League.
However, maybe the Eagles had too much sun in the summer as they’ve started the new 2024/25 campaign in poor form and, as a result, find themselves at the foot of the table.
This has led to many football experts suggesting current Eagles manager Oliver Glasner might only have a handful of games to turn things around at Selhurst Park before things get any worse.
Therefore, the SportsCasting traders – as well as market from the best football betting sites in the UK – have seen the next Crystal Palace manager odds market get a shake-up in recent weeks, with some new names topping the list.
Ex-Eagle Gareth Southgate The Favourite To Be The Next Crystal Palace Manager
Former England manager Gareth Southgate called time on his Three Lions coaching career after the summer Euros and since then has been linked with many sides to make the switch into club management.
With almost six months on the sidelines now, some are suggesting Southgate might be starting to think about his next move and with huge ties to Crystal Palace, it would be no shock to see the Eagles turn to him if if all goes pear-shaped with Glasner.
Southgate managed Middlesbrough between 2006 and 2009, so is certainly no stranger to taking charge at club level.
But having made over 150 appearances for the Eagles over a seven year period (1988-95), it’s no shocker the former player is topping the next Crystal Palace manager odds market.
During his time at the South London side, Southgate was also club captain and guided the Eagles to the 1993-94 First Division title – back then his plied his trade in midfield – netting nine goals that season.
Other Crystal Palace Manager Names In The Running To Replace Oliver Glasner
The best betting sites in the UK are also saying ex-West Ham head coach David Moyes is fancied in the next Crystal Palace manager market.
The Scot left the Hammers at the end of the 2023/24 season and since then his wealth of experience has led to being linked with a lot of vacant (or soon to be vacant) football manager jobs.
Former Brighton manager Graham Potter is another in the top half of the betting, but with his links to the Seagulls it would be a shock if Palace turned to him. Despite being as short at 5/1.
Ruud van Nistelrooy caught the eye of many in his stand-in role at Man United after Erik ten Hag was sacked.
You feel it won’t be long before he’s getting a main job and is fourth best in the next Palace manager odds market.
While another former England international manager Lee Carsley is not ruled out at 9/1 – say the betting insiders.
Could Palace Return To Roy Hodgson To Save Them…….Yet Again?
Veteran football manager Roy Hodgson began his career coaching back in 1976 and has had two spells at Crystal Palace in the past.
Therefore, despite his age (77), if the Eagles do part ways with Oliver Glasner it certainly wouldn’t be a massive surprise if they turned to Hodgson as a stand-in manager.
That said, it would be a bigger shock if they made that move permanent for a third time – but you never know at odds of 28/1.
Other ex-Palace managers, who are even bigger in the betting than Hodgson are Alan Pardew (40/1), Patrick Vieira (40/1), Sam Allardyce (50/1) and Neil Warnock (100/1).
Commentary: sportscasting.com/uk spokesman Andy Newton, reacted to our ‘Crystal Palace Manager Odds’ saying:
“Current Palace boss Oliver Glasner looked to be the second-coming at Selhurst Park at the end of last season.
“However, the bubble has burst a tad this term with the Austrian struggling to get the Eagles flying again this season. Which has led to the pressure building on how long the board will persist.
“With some tricky games between now and the end of the year, this is make or break time for Glasner and if it’s ‘break’ then former Palace club captain Gareth Southgate could be ready to swoop in and save the Eagles.
