The Boston Celtics acquired Kristaps Porzingis in a three-team trade that involved the Memphis Grizzlies and the Washington Wizards. Marcus Smart was traded to the Grizzlies, and the Celtics also sent a draft pick to complete the deal. The trade ostensibly aims to help the Celtics amplify the offensive capabilities of star forwards Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum, while also augmenting the team’s rim-protecting capabilities inside.
Porzingis is seen in some corners for his past health concerns, inconsistent performance, and limited contributions to winning, which has some nervous to outright against the swap for Boston’s needs as a title contender.
One such detractor of the trade was the eponymous host of the Fox Sports “Ben Maller” show, who recently made his case for why the Celtics made a mistake by swapping Smart for Porzingis.
Check out the clip embedded above to hear why he believes this to be true.
