'Could have gone on holiday' - Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony's Bolton loss verdict

Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony felt Bolton Wanderers deserved to beat his side over the weekend and even joked James Trafford could have gone on his holidays given the lack of activity he had to deal with from Posh.

Wanderers made it three wins from three in League One last weekend with a 1-0 triumph over Posh at the University of Bolton Stadium. Dapo Afolayan struck as full-time approached to seal a Bolton win and ensure Wanderers solidified a place in the top six.

Peterborough meanwhile remain in mid-table and off the pace in the race for promotion in the early stage of the season. They posed very little threat to Wanderers over the weekend, with a greater margin of victory not flattering Ian Evatt's side had it been achieved.

Speaking on The Hard Truth Podcast, Posh chairman MacAnthony was frank that Wanderers deserved their three points as he complemented the Whites. He felt his side did not offer much going forwards and that Trafford was not really needed on the day.

MacAnthony said: “Bolton are a really good team and they deserved to win the game. Bolton deserved to win the game, let’s get that straight.

“Their goalkeeper could have gone on holiday. They deserved it and I’m not saying anything here that’s controversial or to upset anyone.

“The gaffer would agree with me on that, Bolton deserved to win. Yes, it was a tight game, defensively we were very good, but offensively we just didn’t show up, so we’re having a really tough time.”
