After a successful 2022 campaign, New York Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka and defensive coordinator Wink Martindale both drew interest for head coaching positions this past offseason.
It felt as though the Giants were lucky to be able to retain both. But things can change in a hurry in the NFL.
At 2-8 and struggling on both sides of the ball, the Giants may move on from both coordinators this offseason, Tony Pauline reports.
What is expected is the release of assistant coaches and the coordinators. Few expect defensive coordinator Wink Martindale or offensive coordinator Mike Kafka to be retained. People from Kafka’s team confide in me that they don’t expect the former college quarterback to survive.
The good news? If you’re a fan of Brian Daboll or you want continuity at head coach, Pauline also reports that the Giants are unlikely to move on from Daboll, which is consistent with other reports this week.
Despite several additions, including tight end Darren Waller, linebacker Bobby Okereke and rookie cornerback Deonte Banks, the Giants have continued to regress. The offense is on pace to be among the worst in franchise history and the defense is wildly inconsistent at best.
A year removed from fear that the Giants might lose Martindale and Kafka, it now appears as if they’ll be shown the door.
