Could Celtic cash in on Kyogo as part of 'cycle' refresh

Brendan Rodgers has spoken openly about how he feels Celtic's "cycle" requires a summer refresh.

But who will be at the brunt of his squad cull and who could the Hoops cash in on?

Mark Wilson expects Kyogo Furuhashi to be among the names that could go.

The Celtic striker has netted 74 times from 135 appearances since arriving in Glasgow from Vissel Kobe three years ago - with his 19 goal tally helping clinch a third straight Scottish Premiership title this season.

"I wouldn’t be surprised if he went," the ex-Celtic defender told Clyde 1 Superscoreboard when asked if they will look to seek a return on the £4.5million paid out to land the Japan international.

"Just because of the way football is. I think everyone has a shelf life. There is the right time to sell everyone.

“I am not saying that’s right for Kyogo. It’s just the way football is. Maybe Brendan Rodgers has looked at the cycle that he has been through. Three years. Plenty of goals. But is he looking for something more? If the price is right.

“If the price was right, then I suspect the club model that Celtic have, if they are making money from it, then they will probably do it.

"One thing is for sure, you need to have somebody in the building or close to signing before you even attempt to let him go."

Wilson isn't convinced that making Adam Idah's loan deal permanent would ease the blow if Kyogo departed as he predicted the club's hierarchy may have other ideas.

"You need someone more mobile," he continued. "I think Idah is good at what he does. He is worth keeping at Celtic or trying to get the deal done. But you need someone like Kyogo. So mobile. Can play off the shoulder.

"Can get a goal out of nothing. You need someone to replace him. It will be an interesting one. I have no doubt Brendan Rodgers will want to keep him. It’s whether it aligns with the club.”
