Cosy farm cafe serving up 'perfect poached eggs' in a 'lovely setting'

There's nothing better than going out for breakfast as a nice treat on the weekend, especially when it's in a lovely setting.

Claremont Farm in Wirral has a quaint cafe and farm shop promising to serve up 'delicious dishes from locally sourced ingredients' cooked by a team of 'talented chefs'. As well as a cafe, the farm also sells produce grown on the farm itself in the farm shop as an added bonus.

I've visited Claremont Farm a few times for its strawberry picking and pumpkin picking, but I've never actually eaten there before, so I was really excited to give their breakfast a try. We visited the cafe on a warm Sunday morning and the queues outside the door were a big giveaway of how truly popular this place is.

After a short wait, we were given our table in the sheltered section away from the sun, but there is also outdoor seating available. The cafe is also dog friendly, and it was lovely to see plenty of pups around enjoying a few cheeky bits of brekkie from their owners.

For drinks, my boyfriend and I decided to go for an iced coffee to cool us down with some vanilla syrup. The iced coffee hit the spot and was a really nice refreshing drink that pretty much disappeared in minutes.

The main event was of course the brekkie though, which I was so excited for. I decided to go for eggs royale with hollandaise sauce and fresh smoked salmon on a toasted muffin. My boyfriend chose the fry-up where you can add additional ingredients for an added £1-£2 depending on what you choose.

We had to wait a reasonable amount of time for our breakfast, but that didn't bother us, considering it was such a busy morning. The wait was also a good sign that everything was cooked fresh and to perfection, which is definitely not something to complain about.

While waiting for our breakfast we really soaked in the surroundings of happy chattering families and couples enjoying the sunshine. The rustic yet sweet cafe had lots of charm and a really buzzing atmosphere, it was the perfect setting for a bite to eat.

When our food arrived it was hot and fresh, and looked very impressive aesthetically. The fry-up was stacked with two perfectly golden crunchy hash browns and a huge piece of black pudding.

Also on the plate was a couple of crispy rashers of bacon, two fabulous looking fried eggs, a separate pot of beans and some toasted golden sourdough bread - perfection. In terms of the eggs royale, the hollandaise sauce was a moreish yellow in colour and completely coated my poached eggs.

I really liked that the hollandaise sauce was thick, it was super creamy and worked so well with the poached egg. The smoked salmon was fresh and salty, but not too salty, all topped off with some chives for a bit of added pizzazz.

As I cut into my poached eggs, I was amazed. Similar to the fried eggs on the fry-up, you could really tell that these eggs were locally sourced. The yolk was golden and had a really velvety texture.

Admittedly, the breakfast was on the pricey side, at £29.50 for two breakfasts and two iced coffees. However, I think you really do get what you pay for.

After one bite I could tell these were top quality ingredients, and that, combined with the setting made this a really nice experience. Will I be visiting Claremont Farm for food again? Absolutely!
