Supermarket giant Costco has responded after being name-dropped in a recent statement by Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ lawyers, as the disgraced rapper’s legal woes continue to worsen.
ICYMI, Costco was bizarrely roped into Combs’ legal battle on Thursday, when his attorney, Marc Agnifilo, suggested in multiple press appearances that the musician bulk-bought baby oil from its stores.
The high volumes of baby oil, reportedly numbering 1000 bottles, were found during authorities’ investigation into Combs and have been central to their case around the rapper hosting days-long and drug-fuelled sex sessions described as “freak-offs”.
Agnifilo — who has maintained his client’s innocence in the weeks following his arrest on sex trafficking charges — told TMZ that Combs “buys in bulk” and that there are “Costcos in every place where [Combs] has a home.” He also intimated that the lubricant was used for “threesomes” and not for the “freak-offs” alleged by prosecutors.
Agnifilo claimed that reports around the number of baby oil bottles found have been exaggerated, saying that while there were “a lot”, he doesn’t “think it was a thousand” and is “not really sure what the baby oil has to do with anything”.
Now, a day after Agnifilo made the claims, Costco spokesperson has responded to the lawyer in a statement provided to TMZ.
While the publication did not quote the spokesperson, it reports that Costco refuted Agnifilo’s claims and argued that they weren’t even possible, since none of its 614 stores across the US even stock baby oil.
TMZ (known for its investigative journalism chops), even looked into whether Costco’s biggest competitor, Sam’s Club, carried similar lubricant products to those described in Combs’ indictment, and also found nothing.
The revelation does little to help Combs’ case, particularly as old videos of the rapper predicting his own arrest and joking about abusive behaviour have begun to resurface online.
Combs is currently detained in Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. If convicted of all the charges against him, he potentially faces a life sentence in prison.
