Cost of living: Popular Ayrshire restaurant announces midweek closure amid rising bills

One of Ayrshire's most popular food haunts has become the latest to suffer the effects of the soaring cost of living.

The iconic Failford Inn - established almost 150 years ago - is a favourite among locals and those from much further afield.

But bosses today admitted they were having to take evasive action against a backdrop of spiralling supply costs, with the Inn now set to shut four days per week.

Posting on their Facebook page, the Failford said: "Due to increasing costs from our utility companies and spiralling prices from suppliers we have no choice but to close the Inn from Monday-Thursday for the foreseeable future.

"We will still be open every weekend Friday-Sunday.

"Thank you for your understanding and continued support in what is yet another difficult time for everyone."

It follows the recent closures of The Waterfront in Ayr and the Minishant Inn, as hospitality chiefs battle to keep trade moving.

Forming part of the famous River Ayr Walk, the Failford is a famous stopping off point for walkers and their dogs and has long been a favourite on the local scene.

Its cosy restaurant, which caters for around 35 covers, is renowned for its cuisine with the former coaching inn being a part of the Ayrshire landscape.
