Cost-of-living crisis continues as many Paisley locals struggle on

UK inflation has hit a new 40-year high of 9.4 per cent per cent as the cost-of-living crisis deepens for already struggling families.

Fuel, energy and food have skyrocketed in price over the last few months.

The average pay hikes in the UK are not keeping up with the cost of living as it races ahead, causing panic and uncertainty.

As many across Paisley face the pinch of living on a wage that does not support the increase on the cost of living, we headed into Paisley to find out how people are coping.

Reg Daniel, now retired, said: “We are all going through the same problem, we all have the same bills. I am not worried about anything.

"I know that is how life is. It will get better eventually. It just takes time.

“It is important to not overstep yourself, live within your means. If you live within your means, you will be content.”

Craig Ridley found it difficult to carry on with his courier job after he left university.

He said: “It is hard to get to work and back with the fuel prices being the way they are. It is costing a lot more money.

"I am wanting to move out, but I just don’t think I can afford all the bills increasing at the moment.”

Even the prices of pet food shocked some people.

Irene Stevenson explained: "It is 20 pence here, 30 pence here ... and that is even for cat and dog food.

"I don't have a cat or a dog, but my friend does and she went down to get more food and it was 30 pence more than what it was yesterday."

Although Margaret Palmer does not drive, she could not help but make it clear that the fuel prices were affecting her family. She added: "I do not drive, but my daughter does. She has a Mini and she had to put £60 in the car recently."

Georgina Stewart has managed to cut down on some of her spending, saying: "I have been doing things like putting clothes on the clothes horse instead of using the tumble dryer and turning the sockets off at the mains."
