Cost of living crisis as Leeds in top 20 most expensive places to live in the UK

The UK is in the grip of a cost of living crisis as energy bills are rising, food and basic necessities are going up in price and households are concerned about how they will be able to afford to live.

Different areas of the country see different prices when it comes to rent, food, going out and so on. Using a list of user-supplied data, there is a website where you can check the cost of living in your area to see how it compares to other parts of the country.

Leeds, for example, has a list dedicated to the cost of restaurants, supermarkets, transportation, utilities, rent and further categories. The data is submitted by residents in the city, and changes frequently.

A general summary in Leeds from the site, Numbeo, shows that a family of four will be looking at monthly costs of £2,428 (before rent) and for single people £715.62 (before rent). Rent in Leeds is, on average, 27.21 per cent more than places such as Coventry.

Residents have admitted they are not able to buy as much food, and are trying to cut down meal portions to stretch out their products for the month.

The data goes into very specific detail, looking at the average prices of apartments per sq ft and mortgages. We have included the data relating to food costs, transport, rent, utilities and clothes.
