Corrie villain Ryan Clayton is latest soap star to sign up for BBC's Waterloo Road

Coronation Street villain Ryan Clayton is set to join BBC's Waterloo Road.

The actor - who played evil rapist Josh Tucker on the ITV soap - will be returning to screens later this year as part of the BBC show's reboot, where he has revealed he will be playing a character called Mike.

Mike is set to be a semi-regular character in the new series and he will join the already announced fellow Corrie stars Kym Marsh, Rachel Leskovac, Sonia Ibrahim and Angela Griffin on the set of the BBC One show.

"Day 1," he wrote on Twitter alongside a camera emoji and a sign which read 'Waterloo Road' on it.

It comes after Kym was confirmed to play Nicky Walters, a school canteen worker and a mother to two pupils at Waterloo Road.

Speaking about her casting, she said: "I'm thrilled to be joining the fabulous cast of Waterloo Road, it’s such a joy to get the opportunity to film in Manchester again and I can’t wait to get going!"

And Rachel - who played the recently killed Natasha Blakeman on the ITV soap - was also thrilled to be joining the programme.

Other actors joining the show include EastEnders ' Jo Coffey, who will play Wendy Whitwell whilst actor Vincent Jerome, who has starred in the likes of Wonder Woman 1984 and Transformers: The Last Knight will star as joint Deputy Head alongside Joe Casey, also a Deputy Head and played by James Baxter from Still Open All Hours.
