Corrie star says killer Gary plot 'ends where it began' as he teases tragic sacrifice

Coronation Street star Mikey North has teased the end to Gary Windass' killer plot, that has seen him cover up the truth over Rick Neelan's murder for three years.

His lies look set to finally be rumbled by Rick's daughter Kelly Neelan, who Gary is currently guardian of.

Gary killed loan shark Rick in a woodland showdown in 2019, after Rick tried to murder him and bury him in a grave he'd just forced him to dig for himself.

Since then, Laura Neelan took the blame for her ex-husband's death when his body was found, while days later she passed away from cancer.

Kelly is about to find out the truth though, and it's not long before she plots a deadly revenge on the man who she believes has torn her life apart.

Now, Gary actor Mikey has teased his huge three-year storyline will "end where it began" as a series of dramatic scenes and a rooftop sequence leave lives on the line.

Mikey told The Mirror and other press that it was "inevitable" the truth would come out at some point, but the cast had no idea when.

The actor also teased Gary could be forced to make a heartbreaking sacrifice, as events take a dark turn.

He said: "I think it was inevitable that this was the way it would end. I'm just really happy that he sort of comes full circle and we were ending up where we began."

Mikey went on as he discussed the truth coming out: "It was always gonna happen, it was just a case of when. I couldn't be more happy with with how it's turned out.

"This block of episodes has been the best block that I've ever been involved with in 15 years here. The collaboration of all the departments coming together to really want to make this work, and obviously we're using new technology and just the nature of all it needed. Everyone's really pulled together."

On whether Gary could sacrifice himself when Kelly find herself in danger, Mikey teased this could be the end for the villain turned good guy.

Mikey explained: "I think he's always trying to be one step ahead. You know, he's got himself out of many sticky situations down the years, I always say he's like a cat with nine lives.

"This is getting pretty drastic now and I think the crux of it is, when he has his life at stake, he sort of knew it would always end like this. But when he finds out that Kelly's involved you know, he is willing to die for that girl, and that's the start of this story and, this is what plays out.

"But I think he feels more fear when it comes to other people being in danger as opposed to himself.

"The stuff when she's in danger up on the roof, he will happily go off that roof for that girl, he really genuinely would jump off if it meant saving her.

"That is his main aim whether he dies or not is of no consequence to him. He's just looking to save Kelly. That's how things play out."

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV and ITV Hub.
